Healing is Gradual + May Be Hard to See


I'm not sure if this belongs here, but this is my tip for those who are on their healing journeys. You may know that healing is not linear and is a slow process. The process may be so slow that you may not even notice your progress, and you probably want immediate results so you can start living your best life; but what if your best life is a treasure to be found on your healing journey? You discover the food and people that heal. You discover the hobbies, and love that heals. You discover you passion. You discover what gives you peace.


I used to want IMMEDIATE results from the "work" I was doing, but I've learned that:

  • Consistency is key. You need to be dedicated to the long haul of healing. You won't see overnight progress.

  • Slow down. If you slow down, you'll heal faster. If you try to rush your healing and give up regularly, it will take you longer to heal. At least that's been my experience.Healing is supposed to be slow. It can take 6-12 weeks to heal a broken bone, right? Don't beat yourself up over the slowness of healing.

  • Routines help.

  • Conserving your energy is important

  • Patience is very necessary.

  • Having a witness point out your progress can be powerful . And while triggers (food, people, experiences,etc) may set you back, can also help you see how far you've come.

  • Self-compassion is a key ingredient if you are dealing with a setback.

These are things that I wish I had been told, but I also think that even if someone told me these things, that I'd have to experience and learn it all on my terms, when I was ready.

    I, for one, am a BIG fan of coconut oil. After studying Ayurveda for the past 6 months, I realized that it wasnt the best oil for my body nor my dosha (we will get into what dosha means at another time). Coconut oil, while extremely moisturizing, is COOLING. Meaning that this oil is amazing in the summer time or for people that tend to run on the warmer side, but if you are like me (I tend to be colder) you need to pack the coconut oil away for the cold weather. Some other options for oils that are great for warming are *sesame oil, avocado oil, &/or jojoba oil. Using these oils for daily moisture or for self-massages will help with keeping you warm for the colder months!
